About this website

This website is a compilation of news, articles, interviews and reports concerning violence against trans, nonbinary and gender diverse people specifically in Costa Rica. It is maintained by a transperson who left the country looking for a life with dignity for them and their family.

There's the widespread idea that Costa Rica is a welcoming country in terms of trans rights, but real life is far from that. Having to deal with the local culture of machismo, strict gender roles and religion; struggling to access jobs and education and failing to get the respect we deserve is daily life for hundreds of trans people in the country.

Our objective is to make that very clear and keep the memory alive. From systemic violence in the health system, to direct attacks in public spaces, let it be known how the country fails our population.
