President Fires Officials Over LGBT Pride March Support.

In June 2024, the government of Costa Rica fired two officials after they signed a declaration of cultural interest for the country's LGBT Pride March.The government claimed the march did not have the necessary permits, but the event organizers denied it. The Pride March organizers called the government's actions an illegal act and a populist move.
