President Laura Fernández publicly declared that “the issue of gender ideology, thank God, is now water under the bridge in this country,” and affirmed that her government ensures education is “impartial” and “not sexualized.” She stated that protocols at the Ministry of Public Education (MEP), the National Child Welfare agency (PANI), and other institutions have been “aligned with national legislation, without including gender ideology topics.”
The remarks extend the administration’s rollback of recognition and protections for trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse people. Stripping “gender ideology” from educational and child-welfare protocols removes guidance that protected LGBTIQ+ students and erases gender-identity content from public schooling, reinforcing a hostile institutional climate for trans and gender-diverse youth.
