In a message directed to legislators, evangelical leaders and pastors, President Laura Fernandez reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to remove what she calls “gender ideology” from Costa Rica’s educational institutions. She stated that her government has “continued the fight to completely eliminate gender ideology from schools and colleges.”
Fernandez said her government prioritizes a values-based education rather than what she characterized as the “sexualization” of minors, and she defended what she called traditional Costa Rican values against international organizations including the United Nations and the Organization of American States. The remarks continue the government’s ongoing campaign against inclusive-education content and protocols that recognize the existence of trans and gender-diverse students.
