2025 June

The Public Entertainment Control and Rating Commission (CCEP) revoked the "all audiences" classification for Orgullo Costa Rica's closing event for the 2025 Pride March, just days before the scheduled celebration. The decision came through official document CCEP-700-06-2025, overturning the prior approval CCEP-691-06-2025.

According to Orgullo Costa Rica, the government requested the event reduce its visibility, and based the reclassification on alleged audience conduct rather than actual performance content.

The organization filed a constitutional challenge seeking immediate nullification of the revocation. Dayana Álvarez Cisneros, president of Orgullo Costa Rica, stated: "This is not merely an attack on an event; it represents an assault on our very existence, our heritage, and our fundamental rights."

This follows the pattern set in June 2024, when the current administration fired cultural officials for approving Pride March support without presidential authorization — a decision later condemned by Costa Rica's Constitutional Court.
